چکیده
With the rapid advancement of technology, the use of chatbots for language learning has been on the rise. However, there is a dearth of research exploring the effect of using chatbots for improving EFL learners' speaking in the light of digital literacy. Accordingly, this study examined the role of using chatbots for enhancing the speaking performance of EFL learners with high and low levels of digital literacy. A digital literacy scale was administered to 108 EFL learners and 36 with the highest and 36 with the lowest scores were identified. Then, both groups received a speaking pretest. Afterwards, both groups used a chatbot for speaking practice for 12 sessions. After treatment, both groups were given a speaking posttest. Moreover, 15 participants from each group partook in semi-structured interviews. The results of Mann Whitney U-test revealed that the high-digital literacy group outscored their low-digital literacy counterparts on speaking performance. The results of qualitative data analysis showed that while the themes for the high digital literacy group reflected positive attitudes towards using chatbots, the themes for the low digital literacy group mainly represented negative attitudes. The results are discussed and implications for language teaching and learning are provided.

با پیشرفت سریع فناوری، استفاده از چت‌بات‌ها برای یادگیری زبان در حال افزایش است. با این حال، تحقیقات کمی در مورد تأثیر استفاده از چت‌بات‌ها بر بهبود مهارت مکالمه زبان‌آموزان ایرانی با در نظر گرفتن سواد دیجیتالی آنها وجود دارد. در این راستا، این مطالعه نقش استفاده از چت‌بات‌ها در بهبود عملکرد مکالمه زبان‌آموزان ایرانی دارای سطح سواد دیجیتالی بالا و پایین را بررسی کرد. در این مطالعه، یک مقیاس سواد دیجیتالی بین 108 زبان‌آموز ایرانی توزیع شد و 36 نفر با بالاترین و 36 نفر با پایین‌ترین نمرات شناسایی شدند. سپس، هر دو گروه در یک پیش‌آزمون مکالمه شرکت کردند. در مرحله بعد، هر دو گروه برای تمرین مکالمه به مدت 12 جلسه از یک چت‌بات استفاده کردند. پس از پایان این دوره آموزشی ، هر دو گروه در یک پس‌آزمون مکالمه شرکت کردند. علاوه بر این، 15 نفر از هر گروه در مصاحبه نیمه ساختار یافته شرکت کردند. نتایج آزمون Mann Whitney U نشان داد که زبان آموزان در گروه دارای سواد دیجیتالی بالا در عملکرد مکالمه خود نسبت به گروه دارای سواد دیجیتالی پایین، برتری داشتند. نتایج تحلیل داده‌های کیفی نشان داد که زبان آموزان در گروه دارای سواد دیجیتالی بالا نسبت به استفاده از چت‌بات‌ها دیدگاههای مثبتی داشتند، در حالی که گروه دارای سواد دیجیتالی پایین اغلب دیدگاههای منفی نشان ‌دادند. در پایان این تحقیق، نتایج بحث شده و پیامدهای آن برای آموزش و یادگیری زبان ارائه شده است.
